Buying Guide
How to Choose a CNC Wire Bending Machine
Choosing the right CNC wire bending machine depends on your wire diameter, part geometry, forming complexity and production requirement. This guide walks through the key factors to review before requesting a machine recommendation.
When This Guide Is Useful
Useful if you are evaluating wire bending machines for a new part, comparing single-head and double-head configurations, or preparing to send a part drawing for a machine recommendation.
Key Selection Factors
Wire diameter / range
The machine should cover your wire's diameter with margin, not match it at the exact edge of its range.
2D vs 3D forming
Some parts only need bending in one plane (2D). Others need a shaped head feature or bending across multiple planes (3D forming), which affects the axis count required.
Axes and forming complexity
More controlled axes generally support more complex geometries and feature combinations in a single forming cycle.
Single-head vs double-head configuration
A single multi-axis forming head suits a wide range of standard wire-formed parts. A double-head configuration — two coordinated forming heads — is typically used for longer parts or higher-complexity geometries.
Part geometry
Bend count, bend radius, symmetry and end features (loops, hooks, shaped heads) all affect which configuration is practical.
Coil feeding
Wire is typically fed from coil. Coil size, wire straightness and feeding length affect how continuous a production run can be.
Production requirement
Expected output, batch size and how often you change over between different parts affect machine and tooling choice.
Machine / Technology Options
A single multi-axis forming head, 5–6 axes depending on model, covering a Ø1–18 mm wire range across the series (six models). Suited to parts formed from one coordinated forming head.
Two coordinated forming heads across 14–20 axes, Ø1–10 mm wire range, maximum bending length up to 2500 mm. Suited to longer parts or higher-complexity geometries.
3D CNC vs Double-Head — Quick Comparison
| Consideration | 3D CNC Wire Bending Machines | Double-Head Wire Bending Machines |
|---|---|---|
| Forming head | Single multi-axis head | Two coordinated heads |
| Axes | 5–6 | 14–20 |
| Wire range | Ø1–18 mm (across series) | Ø1–10 mm |
| Max bending length | — | up to 2500 mm |
